The newly released FNS40222 qualification has replaced the FNS40217 qualification. It is the ideal nationally recognised qualification for individuals wanting careers within the accounting and bookkeeping industry, working as a BAS Agent (Business Activity Statement) or providing bookkeeping services in a range of industry sectors.

This qualification reflects the job roles of workers in the accounting industry, including BAS Agents and contract bookkeepers, and of those employees performing bookkeeping tasks for organisations in a range of industries. It includes preparing and lodging business and instalment activity statements and providing advice or dealing with the Commissioner on behalf of a taxpayer in relation to activity statements. Individuals in these roles apply theoretical and specialist knowledge and skills to work autonomously and exercise judgement in completing routine and non-routine activities.
A Business Activity Statement (BAS) service is a tax agent service that includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Preparing or lodging an approved form about a taxpayer’s liabilities, obligations or entitlements under a BAS provision;
- Giving a taxpayer advice about a BAS provision that the taxpayer can reasonably be expected to rely upon to satisfy their taxation obligations; or
- Dealing with the Commissioner on behalf of a taxpayer in relation to a BAS provision.

Note: The elective units must be relevant to the work environment and the qualification, maintain the integrity of the AQF alignment and contribute to a valid industry-supported vocational outcome. Electives can be modified; discuss options with your Assessor.
There are no formal requirements applicable to enrolling in the Certificate. Applicants must; however, demonstrate they meet the requirements listed below:
- At least 18 years of age at the time of enrolment
- Access to a computer and internet connection
- Good language, literacy & numeracy skills.
A Certificate IV level program with the following learning outcomes:
Breadth, depth and complexity of knowledge and competencies would cover a broad range of varied activities or application in a wider variety of contexts, most of which are complex and non-routine. Participants should display leadership and guidance when organising activities of self and others as well as contributing to technical solutions of a non-routine or contingency nature.
Performance of a broad range of skilled applications, including the requirement to evaluate and analyse current practices, develop new criteria and procedures for performing current practices and provision of some leadership and guidance to others in the application and planning of the skills. Applications involve responsibility for, and limited organisation of, others.
Competencies should enable participants with this qualification to:
- Demonstrate understanding of a broad knowledge base incorporating some theoretical concepts
- Apply solutions to a defined range of unpredictable problems
- Identify and apply skill and knowledge areas to a wide variety of contexts, with depth in some areas
- Identify, analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources
- Take responsibility for own outputs in relation to specified quality standards
- Take limited responsibility for the quantity & quality of the output of others.

You will be provided with an opportunity to request RPL during your interview with your Assessor; however, RPL can be requested at any stage.
