The Skills Assessment is designed specifically to assess an individual’s current bookkeeping competency level or identify gaps that can be used to plan further learning and development. This assessment is particularly applicable for assessing skills and knowledge levels of current and future team members at the Certificate III level and has application to those who plan to or have completed the FNS30317 Certificate III in Accounts Administration or equivalent.
The assessment involves a series of multiple-choice questions and calculation activities on current topics relevant to a junior bookkeeper. On completion, a personalised report will provide guidance on training and development activities that would benefit the participant. Any identified skills and knowledge gaps can be filled through formal programs or CPE activities.

The Skills Assessment is not designed to teach you what you think you know… It’s designed to assess competency levels on general bookkeeping matters and offer guidance where improvement may be beneficial.

The assessment presents a Certificate III level challenge on a range of topics relevant to an aspiring bookkeeper. Don’t stress; we provide study opportunities prior to the assessment, its open book, and you have two attempts.
The assessment is suitable for:
- Practitioners seeking to assess existing skills and knowledge of current and potential workers
- Practitioners who wish to tackle a refresher as a CPE activity
- Individuals who wish to update their skills and knowledge.
Successful candidates will receive a Certificate of Achievement to demonstrate current competence.
Completing this assessment offers 2 hours of CPE, which includes time to conduct research, complete the learning activities and the assessment.
The Skills Assessment aims to assess a set of basic technical, current and accurate skills which are relevant to a junior bookkeeper’s work. It has a focus on foundation skills and accounting principles.
There are no set entry requirements, although good language, literacy & numeracy skills will be beneficial.

The Skills Assessment incorporates self-paced learning activities and a final assessment which provides an opportunity for you to demonstrate competence in general topics relevant to bookkeeping. The assessment is completed via our online student portal in accordance with the Assessment Conditions below.
Assessment methods may include any combination of:
- Self-paced activities
- Case Studies
- Multiple choice questions
- Calculation activities.
Assessment Conditions:
- 50 questions (multiple-choice and calculation activities)
- Assessment duration: Two hours
- Students are afforded two attempts only to pass the assessment
- A pass mark of 85% or higher is required to successfully complete this assessment.
What is involved?
- Pre-Assessment Study Activities – A series of activities are provided as an optional learning opportunity to reinforce your skills and knowledge. Each activity is specifically designed to address any evident skills or knowledge gaps. These activities allow you to progress through the material at your own pace, taking as long as you need to master each activity
- Complete the assessment within the allocated time frame
- Answer all multiple-choice questions and complete all calculation activities.
