The New Compliance Requirements for BAS agents – Stay Calm

My CPE takes a proactive role in supporting and educating BAS agents, bookkeepers, and payroll providers. We have channelled this deep experience into building the products and services to support you with the recent Code of Professional Conduct announcements by the federal government.

This is what you need to know about the new compliance rules and what we are doing to help you.

In response to the PwC fiasco, the federal government has announced significant changes to the Tax Agent Services Act 2009 (TASA). One of the key changes requires the implementation of a robust Quality Management System (QMS) for tax practitioners to show their compliance with the Code.

The Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) has announced that small bookkeeping and accounting practices have until 1 July 2025 to comply with the new obligations. So, there is time for you to develop a measured and considered plan of action.

The QMS represents a major challenge for BAS Agents. It is complex and can be expensive to develop, implement and maintain. It will be significantly more cost-effective and convenient if most of the work is already done for you. That’s exactly what My CPE has built.

We have created a set of QMS Resources that make compliance simple and painless for BAS agents.

  1. A complete, comprehensive, and compliant QMS that you can tailor to suit your business.
  2. Education materials that take you through the compliance requirements and obligations.
  3. A QMS template to guide those of you who wish to build your own.

These resources have been blessed by one of our leading professional associations.

The TPB is holding its first webinar on the new compliance requirements later this week.  We will finalise our QMS compliance tools for release once the TPB has clarified its views and expectations. We will be making further announcements soon. Watch out for our new blogs over the coming days.
